Sweet potatoes are my jam. I love them any way you can make them, but lately, I've been craving something with a kick. So, I decided to play around with a recipe for some spicy-sweet potato power fries. My boyfriend loves them, so I know I'm onto something. They're a little sweet, a little spicy, and a whole lot of delicious.
SPICY SWEET POTATO POWER FRIES
Prep time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 25 minutes
Yields: 4 servings
Ingredients
2 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1/4 inch thick fries
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp smoked paprika
1 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
1/2 tsp chili powder
1/4 tsp cinnamon
Salt and pepper to taste
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro, for garnish (optional)
2 tbsp maple syrup or honey, for drizzling (optional)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
In a large bowl, toss the sweet potato fries with olive oil until they are evenly coated.
In a small bowl, mix the smoked paprika, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, chili powder, and cinnamon.
Sprinkle the spice mixture over the fries and toss again to make sure they are well-coated. Season with salt and pepper to your liking.
Spread the fries in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. This is key for getting them nice and crispy.
Bake for 20-25 minutes, flipping them halfway through, until they are tender on the inside and crispy on the outside.
Once out of the oven, transfer the fries to a serving bowl. If you want a little extra sweetness, drizzle them with maple syrup or honey. Garnish with fresh cilantro if you like.
Serve immediately and watch them disappear!
Enjoy, and happy cooking! LEEZA JOHAN
