Ingredients

  • 2 cups (about 16 oz) full-fat or 2% plain Greek yogurt (strained for creaminess)

  • 3/4 cup kiwi puree (from about 3–4 large, ripe kiwis, peeled)

  • 1/4 cup protein powder (plain, vanilla, or kiwi-flavored whey or plant-based)

  • 1/3 cup honey or maple syrup (adjust to taste based on kiwi sweetness)

  • 1 tablespoon lemon or lime juice (to brighten the flavor)

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • Optional: 1–2 finely diced kiwis for stirring in (for "bits" like in the picture)

Instructions

1. Prepare the Kiwi Puree: Peel the kiwis. Chop and blend them in a food processor or high-speed blender until completely smooth. If you prefer a completely smooth frozen yogurt, strain the puree through a fine-mesh sieve to remove the black seeds (though the seeds add nice visual texture, as seen in the photo). Measure out 3/4 cup of the puree.

2. Mix the Base: In a large mixing bowl, combine the Greek yogurt, kiwi puree, protein powder, honey (or chosen sweetener), lemon/lime juice, and vanilla extract. Use a whisk to blend everything until it is perfectly smooth and has a uniform light green color.

3. Taste and Adjust: Taste the mixture. Kiwis can vary widely in tartness. If it needs more sweetness, add another tablespoon of honey. If it’s too sweet, add a squeeze more citrus.

4. The Churning Method (Best for Creamy Texture): If you have an ice cream maker, transfer the mixture to the machine and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions. This usually takes 20–30 minutes.

If adding fruit bits: Just before the churning is finished, stir in the finely diced kiwi pieces (optional).

5. The Freeze Method (If No Ice Cream Maker): Pour the smooth mixture into a shallow, freezer-safe container or a loaf pan lined with parchment paper. Place in the freezer.

To achieve a creamy texture, remove the container from the freezer every 30 minutes for the first 2 hours and whisk vigorously with a fork or electric beater. This breaks up ice crystals. Continue until it is too firm to mix.

6. Hard Freeze and Serve: Transfer the churned or mixed frozen yogurt to an airtight container. Press plastic wrap directly onto the surface to prevent ice crystals from forming. Freeze for at least 4 hours, or until firm.

When ready to serve, scoop the frozen yogurt. For the full experience shown in the image, top with additional fresh, sliced kiwis.
