Garnished with fresh parsley, it's a visually stunning and incredibly flavorful way to start your day, perfect for brunch or a special morning treat.
Ingredients:
1 lb ground sausage or ground beef
1 (30-32 oz) bag frozen shredded hash browns, thawed
12 large eggs
2 cups milk
1 cup heavy cream
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp garlic powder
3 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese, divided
12 strips bacon, cooked and crumbled
Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish
Instructions:
Prep the Meat and Hash Browns: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground sausage or beef until brown, breaking it apart with a spatula. Drain any excess grease and set aside. Ensure your hash browns are thawed and any excess moisture is pressed out.
Make the Egg Mixture: In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder until well combined and slightly frothy.
Assemble the Casserole: Grease a large 9x13-inch baking dish. Spread the thawed hash browns evenly in the bottom. Layer the cooked ground meat over the hash browns. Top with 2 cups of the shredded cheddar cheese. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the entire dish.
Bake the Casserole: Bake, uncovered, in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 40-45 minutes, or until the casserole is set in the center and the top is lightly golden.
Add the Topping: Remove the casserole from the oven. Sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of cheddar cheese evenly over the top. Top with the crumbled bacon.
Melt the Topping: Return the casserole to the oven for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Serve: Let the casserole rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley.
